Ukraine Seeks Help of Hackers to Protect Country. The Ukrainian government has sought the help of hackers to protect vital infrastructure and conduct cyber-surveillance of Russia’s military. The country, which has been hit by Russian military operations, is seeking volunteers from among the country’s “underground hackers”. According to Reuters, hackers have been calling for volunteers in forums since Thursday morning, shortly after Russia’s military offensive in various cities began.
“Cyber community of Ukraine! The time has come to take part in the country’s cyber defense, ”the forum post said. Applications from hackers and cyber security experts are being collected through Google Docs files.
Dr. Yegor Aushev, the co-founder of Cyber Unit Technologies, a Kyiv-based cyber security company, confirmed to Reuters that he had written the post at the hackers’ forum “at the request of a senior Defense Ministry official. The company has previously worked with the Ukrainian government to ensure the cyber security of the critical infrastructure.

A second source confirmed to Reuters that a request had been made by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry to recruit hackers into the country’s defense system.
However, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Defense Ministry did not comment to Reuters. An official at the Ukrainian embassy in Washington said he could not confirm or deny the “information found on the Telegram Channel”.
On the other hand, Aushev said, volunteer hackers will be divided into a defensive cyber unit and an offensive cyber unit. Defensive cyber units will ensure the security of important infrastructures such as power generation systems and water supply systems. In 2015, a cyber attack by Russian hackers cut off electricity to 2.5 million Ukrainians.
The second cyber unit will assist Ukraine in digitally monitoring Russia’s military activities, Aushev said.
“We need to know what an army is doing in our country,” Aushev said.
The new malware was discovered in the cyber world of Ukraine on Wednesday. The finger of suspicion is also on Russia; Ukraine’s government services and financial institutions have been affected by the malware attack. Russia denies cyber-attack
Ukraine has no military cyber force, a defense official told the Washington Post in early February. “It’s our job to make it this year,” he told the Washington Post.
