Ukraine is the Victim of DDoS Cyber Attack. Ukraine has been the victim of cyber attacks again. The European Union (EU) has said in a statement that the “attack was carried out in a very different way”.
Earlier on Wednesday, the websites of several Ukrainian banks and government departments went offline. Internet connectivity company Netblocks said in a tweet that “this incident is similar to the recent Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.”

What is DDoS Attack?
In the case of a DDoS attack, the target of the attack is, in most cases, a server sending so much Internet traffic in the form of a ‘data request’ that the server becomes unable to handle it and the website or Internet-based service goes offline. Earlier this attack was carried out from a source and it was called DDoS or denial-of-service attack.
When the same operation is carried out simultaneously from different sources, it is possible to increase the intensity of the attack and share the task of attack from different sources. This is called DDoS or ‘Distributed Denial-of-Service’ attack.
The DDoS Attack Continues

“Another mass DDoS attack on our country has begun.” Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine Minister for Digital Transformation, wrote in a telegram. The BBC reports, citing information provided by Netblocks, that the attack, which began on Wednesday afternoon, intensified the day after.
A Ukrainian researcher told the BBC: “Ukraine’s military and banking websites have returned to normal in the immediate aftermath of the cyber-attack, due in part to increased readiness and resilience.
“It simply came to our notice then. Ukraine’s security services continue to suffer delays and disruptions, which is a matter of urgency. “
A similar attack last week left several websites offline in the country. The United Kingdom and US cyber authorities have blamed Russia for hacking the Kremlin. However, Moscow has denied any involvement, and Russia has not been charged with the latest attack.
In January, the Ukrainian government blamed Russia for another DDoS attack. In the wake of the dismantling of about 70 official websites, Ukrainians have been told to be prepared for more dire consequences by changing several sites.
Most sites return to normal within a few hours.
Hybrid Warfare
The EU announced on Tuesday that it would deploy a Cyber Rapid-Response Team (CRRT) across Europe following a call for help from Ukraine.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Russia’s so-called “hybrid warfare” has been widely touted as a combination of cyber-attacks with conventional military operations.
DDOS attacks in Georgia and Crimea also occurred during the Russian invasion in 2008 and 2014.
The EU, UK and Ukraine have blamed Russian-backed hackers for the attack on the power substation. They were blamed for massive power outages in 2015 and 2016.
Moscow has denied any involvement in the attack, calling it “Russophobic.”
