A statement from Beijing said the apps illegally collected customer contact links and location data. The Chinese government has also accused the pop-up window of harassing customers.

This list includes an e-reading app from the Alibaba Group. There is also the popular travel app Trip.com and the video streaming app Ishii.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said the apps would resolve all complaints before August 25. If this amendment is not made within the stipulated time, it will take appropriate action against them as per the law.

WeChat’s parent companies Tencent, Alibaba, and Trip.com, have not commented on the matter.
